Why Boudoir Film Photography?

Women ask me all the time what are the benefits to upgrading into film photography. If you’re into photography it’s a pretty easy answer, but for those of you who may not know the difference let me tell you why I would add film photography into your Denver boudoir session!

Film photography is nostalgic!

Do you have a favorite photo from when you were growing up? Is your significant other into film photography? Or did someone in your life gift you a vintage camera? These are all great reasons why you should upgrade into boudoir film photography! It takes us back to a simple time where we patiently had to wait for our photographs to come back from the film lab. It also makes us wonder what the photo is going to look like and we cannot instantly check. Film photography is also making a big comeback and everyone seems to be learning all about film photography and using vintage cameras, which is awesome! During your boudoir session it will slow things down because I have to manually focus the camera which can be great because you know you will have the perfect pose, lighting, and picture.

Everything just looks different/better on film!

Have you heard of the bright and airy look? Well, that’s film! Even if its black and white film everything is soft (I call it yummy, lol) and shows less flaws. Don’t get me wrong, I still do a little bit of editing on the photos, but it’s a different kind of editing. Some photographers edit their photos to look like film, but for me nothing is better than the real thing! I especially love how with film photography you can focus on one thing and everything else is soft (some might call it out of focus). Sometimes the focus may be off a little and that’s okay because the photo comes out a little more artsy and that also can be a really great thing!

In conclusion

With film photography there isn’t a certain number of photos you should expect. You can definitely ask and I can give you a guesstimate. Why do I give guesstimates? Well, depending on the camera I use there is only a certain number of photos the camera will take. Also, because they are vintage cameras sometimes things can go wrong. It doesn’t happen often because I always test cameras before using them solely on a session and I always make sure that if something is a little off it’s time to go to the film doctor!

The best part is you can add these film photos to most any album, and you get prints in a box! I’m all about something tangible. Adding film photography is a really great affordable way to add additional photos to your session, which is the biggest value! I almost forgot the best part… Film looks amazing in the studio!! Yes, before you ask you can add film photography to your home or outdoor session!
